Beltran Shouldn’t Be Paid $119 Million To Talk

June 7th, 2009 by Jim Fox in Major League Baseball

The Pirates sweep the Mets. Carlos Beltran thinks everyone should be embarrassed that this happened. Adam LaRoche thinks that Beltran is showing zero class. Beltran doesn’t care what LaRoche thinks. I don’t care what Beltran thinks because he doesn’t get paid to speak out.

Beltran thinks that the Mets are a better team than the Pirates. Record-wise, this is true. The Mets are 30-25 while the Pirates are 26-30. But the fact of the matter is that the Mets got swept. Beltran went into a few “what-if” scenarios but he’s has to realize that it’s better to get them the next time and not explain why they were swept.

The Pirates are a bunch of professional baseball players too and they won’t just let the Mets beat up on them. The Mets have had problems over the past few years and they’ve no doubt let a lot of people down.

Here’s what Beltran should be embarrassed about. He struck out looking on an 0-2 curveball, that even I saw coming, to end the 2006 NLCS. $119 to look that pitch go by.

Beltran should just focus on playing the game and not “being embarrassed” by getting swept by a team that’s nearly .500. The Mets have proven time and time again they don’t have what it takes to win consistently and even though they think they’re better, they’re really not. I hope the Pirates beat them every time out.
