Football and women are two things that men love. Now if you add those two things together, you get the greatest thing ever invented by mankind, and that is the Lingerie Football League. On September 4th, the LFL kicked off their inaugural season when the Miami Caliente visited the Chicago Bliss at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.

The atmosphere was definitely incredible as me and my friend Phil joined in the pre-game festivities with a mammoth tailgate party that would put some NFL tailgate parties to shame. I mean honestly, when was the last time you saw a sanctioned beer pong tournament at a tailgate? The ladies of the Chicago Bliss were out and about signing autographs and taking pictures for their hometown fans. The music was blaring, the food was great, the beer was cold, and even Da Coach showed up for a press conference. Then the game started.

The game was awesome. Most men and women probably saw the game as nothing more than a powder puff football game, but it was definitely more than that. Hard hitting, some injuries, and even a small fight or two between the beautiful ladies on each team should of made all the haters shut up.

The ladies of the Chicago Bliss came out of the tunnel looking like they were ready to play football. “I was very excited, very nervous, but I was very proud of all the girls on the team,” Chicago Bliss cornerback and team captain Danielle Moinet said after the game. “We were a demoralized team in the weeks leading up to the game, but our new coaching staff came in and made us ready to play some football.”

The game definitely did not have all the statistics of an arena league football game. Defense seemed to be the common denominator between the two teams. Miami had a very solid air game, but the Bliss had their secret weapon in running back Tasha “The Tank” Pryor, who made the Miami run defense look pedestrian at best scoring two rushing touchdowns and adding another two point conversion later in the game. The final score was 29-19 with the Bliss pulling off the win when Danielle Moinet picked off the last pass of the game to seal the win.

“Hopefully people now better understand what the LFL is all about. No one cared about what we were doing, but we practice hard and play hard, and hopefully that will change the view that people have on the league,” Danielle told me after the game. “Were constantly evolving and getting better, and we want to go undefeated and make it all the way to Miami to be apart of the Lingerie Bowl.”

But for now the Bliss are just taking it one game at a time, with their next game October 2nd against the New York Majesty in Long Island, NY, with their next home game being December 18th, against Eastern Conference power Philadelphia Passion.

Check out the game highlights!

One of the most phenomenal things about baseball is the Cubs organization’s ability to breed futility.

One of the most phenomenal things about baseball is the Cubs organization’s ability to breed futility. Their reputation for failure is simply astonishing and every little thing is magnified to the fullest extent. As far as I’m concerned, it’ll be another 100 years before a World Series is won on the north side of Chicago.

The Cubs are nothing but overpriced and underachieving players who are simply unable to consistently win. The prime example is Milton Bradley, whose tirade got him sent home during the heated and intense weekend series with the Sox. Ten million dollars a season for a .232 average with five homers and 16 RBIs is the definition of underachieving.

If they want any chance of winning a game in the playoffs in the future, they really do need to unload everyone and start building within their farm system. This philosophy of acquiring stars has gotten them nowhere.

Take Alfonso Soriano for instance. His contract gets him $18 million a season. His OBP for a leadoff hitter is less than .300, which is obviously beyond fathomable. His inability to want to move down the order is something that manager Lou Piniella should not deal with and general manager Jim Hendry should make some changes.

Look at rookie Jake Fox. His hitting ability is outstanding but he cannot play a lick of defense. Just the Cubs’ luck, get a player of his caliber to the big leagues but he can rarely play because he truly is a prototypical designated hitter.

Until the Cubs make drastic changes, we can all watch and expect them to lose more than they win. Watching them lose 2/3 from the Sox and just watching the way the lost makes you realize how bad they are and they really are in a no-win situation.

The book was written by Michael Lewis and details the career of A’s general manager Billy Beane, both as a player and exectutive. Sony better get their act together and make this happen. There have been 14 in the history of the Stanley Cup, four of which since 2001. Home teams have a record of 12-2, which doesn’t bode well for Pittsburgh but they have the chance to reverse this trend tomorrow night.

Beltran thinks that the Mets are a better team than the Pirates. Record-wise, this is true. The Mets are 30-25 while the Pirates are 26-30. But the fact of the matter is that the Mets got swept. Beltran went into a few “what-if” scenarios but he’s has to realize that it’s better to get them the next time and not explain why they were swept.

The Pirates are a bunch of professional baseball players too and they won’t just let the Mets beat up on them. The Mets have had problems over the past few years and they’ve no doubt let a lot of people down.

Here’s what Beltran should be embarrassed about. He struck out looking on an 0-2 curveball, that even I saw coming, to end the 2006 NLCS. $119 to look that pitch go by.

Beltran should just focus on playing the game and not “being embarrassed” by getting swept by a team that’s nearly .500. The Mets have proven time and time again they don’t have what it takes to win consistently and even though they think they’re better, they’re really not. I hope the Pirates beat them every time out.
