Snyder Breaks Out The Checkbook Early

The Washington Redskins play in the toughest division in football and once free agency started at 12:01 EST this morning, owner Dan Snyder made sure they made a big splash.

They signed highly coveted DT Albert Haynesworth to a seven-year, $100 million contract that could max out at $115 million. They also resigned top CB D’Angelo Hall to a six-year, $54 million contract. (Read More)

The Chicago Bulls suffered two monumental losses yesterday when Johnny “Red” Kerr and Norm Van Lier both passed away. Pictured here with Bob Love, they were two of the most popular people to ever be associated with the Bulls and their names will always be synonymous with the team. Even The NBA Isn’t Recession Proof

The National Basketball Associate is set to take out a $175 million loan to help bail out 15 of its teams. The teams have not been identified but it is thought that the mid-to-lower market teams are those in need. Some teams have been operating at a loss of at least $10 million a season and due to the economic times, the loan is necessary. [Phoenix Biz Journal]

Bond’s Trial Just Getting Started

Barry Bond’s former trainer Greg Anderson will be called in the most unusual hearing tomorrow. He must declare whether or not he will testify against Bonds once his perjury trial begins next month.

The reason he must testify is because he can determine whether or not three positive steroid tests belong to Bonds. If he doesn’t, three key pieces of evidence will be disallowed in court, helping Bond’s case. (Read More)

Fehr Must Identify All 104 Players From 2003 Tests

MLB player’s union President Donald Fehr will continue to support moving forward from the steroid era and withhold the names of the remaining 103 players who tested positive for steroids in 2003 even though we all know Alex Rodriguez tested positive. The problem is the game cannot move on until that happens. (Read More)

Tiger To Make Much Anticipated Return

We haven’t seen Tiger Woods compete since the epic US Open at Torrey Pines in June since he has been recovering from reconstructive knee surgery. After eight months of rehab, Tiger is set to return to the Tour next weekend at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Everyone wants to see him play again and all casual golf fans will be drawn back to the sport. (Read More)

Griffey To End Career With Mariners

Future Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. will return to the team where he made a name for himself and became one of the best players in the game. The Seattle Mariners signed Junior to a one year, $2 million deal with incentives that could escalate the contract to $4.5 million. (Read More)
