Shanahan Out After 14 Seasons

I’m surprised that people are surprised this happened. Broncos coach Mike Shanahan was fired after his long tenure in Denver. He led the Broncos to two Super Bowl titles early in his career but only won one playoff game in the last ten seasons, all of which without John Elway.

Shanahan just couldn’t win in the playoffs without Elway but he shouldn’t be judged as a coach because of that. He truly was one of the best coaches in the game and the team was extremely loyal to him for 14 years. But in today’s game, it’s all about playoff victories and one in ten years isn’t getting the job done. (Read More)

Everything Going Wrong In Oklahoma City

The people of Oklahoma got their wish this past off-season and they were given a professional sports franchise. Too bad that so-called professional team turned out to be the currently 3-29 Oklahoma City Thunder.

They could give the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers a run for their money. That team holds the league’s worst single-season record at 9-73. The Thunder has the second worst ranked offense and the ninth worst ranked defense and with that, they’re well on their way. (Read More)

Teams Can’t Wait To Can Coaches

The day after the regular season, three teams decided to move on without their head coaches. The Browns, Jets, and Lions fired Romeo Crennel, Eric Mangini, and Rod Marinelli respectively.

In the case of Crennel, it was coming after a down year considering they came off a ten win season. Playoffs were expected and anticipated but things did not go according to plan and the 4-12 record showed. GM Phil Savage will not be back next season either and the Browns will need to search for replacements for both and turn things around. (Read More)

Eagles Roll Cowboys To Claim Final NFC Playoff Spot

Remember back when Jerry Jones guaranteed the Cowboys would make the playoffs? Well he just about lost all credibility after his team absolutely was rolled over by the Eagles 44-6 in their last regular season game.

The Cowboys controlled their own destiny. All they had to do was win to get into the playoffs but they didn’t stand a chance. The Eagles dominated in all aspects of the game and simply showed the country just what so-called America’s team was made of. (Read More)

Singletary To Remain Head Coach Of 49ers

The season appeared to be a lost cause for the San Francisco 49ers when they were 2-5 and they fired head coach Mike Nolan. Then Mike Singletary took over on an interim basis.

The 49ers have gone 4-4 since then he’s given the team hope for the future. The club has really responded to their new coach. Singletary proved he has what it takes to remain as the coach. The entire team has played better and the old school philosophy has really taken effect in San Francisco. Because of that, Singletary will be offered a contract and the interim tag will be removed after Sunday’s finale against Washington. (Read More)

It’s hard to believe that it’s time for week 17, can’t help but ask where this season has gone. Like every year though, teams will look to wrap up playoff berths in their final game or jockey for position. We’ll take a look at who’s in and what teams need to do to get in. (Read More)

Irish Justify Weis Decision With Big Win

The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame needed a win in the biggest way possible in the Hawaii Bowl against Hawaii to prove that retaining Charlie Weis was the right move. They did just that, beating the Fighting Rainbow Warriors 49-21.

Quarterback Jimmy Clausen threw for Notre Dame Bowl records of 401 yards and five touchdown passes. Receiver Golden Tate hauled in six passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns to lead the receiving corps. (Read More)
