Still Talkin’ About Practice

Allen Iverson’s practice rant is one of the best of all-time and the word practice is synonymous with AI. It got to be so popular that it inspired Final Timeout’s best selling t-shirt.

When he came to Detroit, he said he would do anything that was asked of him, including practice. Well that didn’t last too long as he will be fined and maybe benched after missing the one hour Turkey Day practice. Missing the Lions game was not a priority for the superstar. (Read More)

Davidson Still Rolls As Curry Held Scoreless

Posted Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 by Jim Fox | Comment Here (0)

Stephen Curry leads Davidson to wins scoring over 30 points on a consistent basis. Turns out, he can also lead them to wins scoring zero points.

Loyola (MD) tried a unique strategy against Davidson, double teaming Curry the entire game, no matter where he went and regardless of the circumstance. In the Davidson 78-48 win, Curry stood in the corners drawing double-teams, leaving the 4-3 Wildcat advantage. (Read More)

Happy Thanksgiving from Final Timeout and the Barber brothers! 3 games on Thursday should be able to hold over your football appetite until Sunday, where some strong match-ups and division games are scattered amongst a few seemingly lop-sided affairs. But nothing is ever a given in sports, and the NFL is no different, so expect a few upsets this week. Of the 16 games this week, I’ve picked 11 road teams to win. Let’s see how these babies pan out, shall we?

Sixers Above .500! (And Other NBA Tidbits)

At 7-6, the Philadelphia 76ers are over .500 for the first time this season. They have won 5 out of their last 6 after beating the Golden State Warriors 89-81 yesterday and are starting to look like a pretty good bunch. Elton Brand is Elton Brand, Thaddeus Young is looking to become a superstar soon and Andre Miller is one of the league’s most underrated point guards. He’s not flashy and his numbers won’t always impress, but he runs games smoothly and has hit clutch 3-pointers in the final two minutes in back-to-back games now even though his career percentage from beyond is only 20%. The Sixers look to relieve some more Eagles pain tonight at 7:00 against the Bobcats in Charlotte. (Read More)

Sit Down, Donny 5

Just when a tie with the Bengals appeared to be the lowest these birds could stoop this season, more negative news fresh out of the City of Brotherly Love. For the first time in his career (barring injuries), Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb was benched for his ineffectiveness at halftime in Baltimore today. He was 8/18 for 59 yards with 0 TDs and 2 INTs, simply adding on to the nightmarish downward spiral of a season he and his team have been enduring. The Eagles were stomped by the Ravens 36-7 and fall to a 5-5-1 record after starting the year 5-3. The Ravens improve to 7-4. (Read More)

Rose For MVP

Posted Saturday, November 22nd, 2008 by Jim Fox | Comment Here (2)

Forget just the Rookie of the Year, Bulls guard Derrick Rose will have MVPs on his mind, maybe not this year but he’s well on his way.

You can tell by Bulls color man Stacey King, who had a number of comments during the fourth quarter of their 115-110 win against the Warriors, such as, get the ball to Derrick Rose, thank you. The Bulls have put a lot of trust into a rookie that has just played 13 professional games and he’s the one that they want shooting the basketball. Rose simply dominated down the stretch and hit clutch shot after clutch shot, reminding fans of a certain #23. (Read More)
