Manny Hits His 500th Home Run

Red Sox left-fielder Manny Ramirez became the 24th player to reach the 500 home run milestone and he has the fourth highest batting average among those in the 500-home run club, behind Ted Williams, Babe Ruth and Jimmie Foxx, clearly making him one of the best all-around hitters of all-time.

Manny hit the first pitch of his fourth at-bat into the right-center field seats in Baltimore, off pitcher Chad Bradford. Ramirez is one of the best all-around players in the game and it’s great to see a player of his caliber reach this milestone and have no questions of using performance-enhancing drugs come into play. Red Wings Put A Stranglehold on Series

No Tomas Holmstrom, no problem for Detroit. The Wings were able to get the win in game four, defeating the Penguins 2-1. Jiri Hudler scored his first Finals goal and third of the postseason to put the Wings ahead in the third period.

Pittsburgh had several great opportunities but just couldn’t capitalize. They have to figure out how to score at Joe Louis Arena in the next two days, something they couldn’t do in the first two games of the series. If they can’t do that, Detroit will make quick work of them and be able to raise the Stanley Cup again. (Read More)

Boston beat Detroit in game six by a score of 89-81. They used a 19-4 run to erase a 10 point fourth quarter deficit to win the game.

Bob’s All-Star Picks: National League

chase utley all-star second base philadelphia philliesThe first round of official All-Star vote totals were released earlier this week as Matt posted before, so here’s my take on who should get the starting spots for the National League in the 2008 All-Star Game.

Most of these picks come from the Central division, with none coming from the West. That’s no mistake. The West is just so light hitting while the Central and East are filled with powerhouses. At some positions, I would have to go 4 or 5 choices down just to find someone from the West. That’s alright though because if the National League can’t end its All-Star drought against the American with this lineup, then something is seriously wrong. (Read More)

Kobe Dominates, Lakers Back In Finals

What else are MVPs for, Kobe Bryant scored 39 points on 16-30 shooting as the Lakers dismissed the defending champion Spurs in game five by a score of 100-92. Kobe scored 17 in the fourth quarter and helped erase a 17-point deficit.

The Lakers are back in the Finals for the first time since 2005, when they lost to Detroit. Kobe also looks to win a championship without Shaq, something that will definitely quiet some of his critics.
